The Mystery of the Cupola
The wonderful Piazza Duomo, in the very heart of Florence’s historical center, is a perfect combination of stunning monuments and masterpieces of architecture - the Baptistery of San Giovanni and its astonishing golden doors representing scenes from the Old Testament, the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and the famous Dome.
The wonderful Brunelleschi’s Dome standing high with a perfect structure in red bricks, is probably the most recognizable monument of all Florence, that you can also admire from a far distance. The Cupola was built by the great architect Filippo Brunelleschi in the 15th century; its construction was not an easy thing at that time and still today there are a lot of theories trying to explain how the Dome can actually stand without any visible support!
Enter the Cathedral and admire the amazing Vasari’s frescoes adorning the interior of the Dome. You can then reach the top of the Cupola and enjoy extraordinary views all over the city. Right from the Duomo's square you may wander through the fashionable medieval streets of Florence and be immersed in the charming Florentine atmosphere.
